The patrols out there that come to help you if you have a breakdown are trained to deal with a variety of different problems that occur on the side of the road. Of course there are some things that end up causing a breakdown more than others.

Wondering what the common causes of breakdown happen to be? Well, here is a look at five of the top causes of breakdown. Once you know them, you may be able to avoid them happening to you in some cases.

Battery Problems

When it comes to the main causes of breakdown these days, you'll find that battery problems is probably one of the top problems. It happens to the best of us. You go out and get in the vehicle, and when you turn the key there is nothing. In some cases you may be able to jump the car and get going. However, in many cases you are going to need some help.

Batteries can easily go bad and they can also become run down. As one of the most common causes of breakdown, you may want to check your battery from time to time to make sure it is in good shape.

Alternator Issues

Another of the common causes of breakdown is alternator issues. The alternator is definitely an important part of the vehicle you drive. If something goes wrong with it, many things can happen that will leave you stranded on the side of the road. The batter can go dead or your car may just end up dying on you because it doesn't have the power needed to keep running.

If you notice the lights on the dash dim, the radio fades away, or the wipers on the windscreen slow, there could be an alternator problem in your vehicle.

Fuel Problems

Fuel problems are common causes of breakdown as well. Sometimes people forget to fill up and they end up running out and stranded. Other people put in the wrong type of fuel and cause a huge problem with their vehicle. Try to make sure that you always keep the fuel tank filled up to keep this from happening to you.

Flat Tyre

Flat tyres are common causes of breakdown, and sometimes you just can't do anything to prevent this from happening. There are some things that you can do though to try to avoid dealing with flat tyres. You can make sure that you put enough pressure in the tyres, which can help to make sure that you don't have this problem.

Check your tires for nails and other sharp objects as well. No one wants to end up with a flat tyre, even though it's one of the most common causes of breakdown.

Starter Motor Problem

Last of all, another of the common causes of breakdown is a starter motor problem. If there is a problem with the starter motor, the car is not going to start up for you. Maintaining your vehicle can help to avoid this, but sometimes you just can't keep this from happening.

Since it is one of the common causes of breakdown, try to keep this checked out; however, it may not keep this from occurring to you in the future.
